I am a backyard landscape do it yourself, hobbyist. As a matter of fact, one of the reasons that I first bought a house was because I wanted to be able to play with backyard landscape design. I have had so many backyard landscaping ideas since I was very small, but I have never gone on to do any of them. You see, when I was a kid I used to love to imagine what my dream house would be like. Of course back then, my backyard landscape ideas were not that well developed. Basically, most of my backyard landscape designs were pretty over the top. I wanted to have a giant backyard fountain that you could swim in, a backyard basketball court – you get the idea. When I was a kid, my backyard landscape design scheme centered around making the biggest, best playground that a child had ever had.
Texture is another important part of landscape design company design. There are so many textures when it comes to plants, foliage, and flowers. It is a good idea not to have too many textures represented, but the ones you do have should be cohesive. You might have a small area of roses bordered by a short wrought iron fence. Low-growing phlox can then grow along the edge of the main borders of your landscaping. Other textures could be different types of grasses, berry bushes, and flowers. Your yard can look too busy if you put all of these textures right next to the other. Plan carefully, but also remember to take into consideration that certain plants need more sun or shade than others.
Of course, as with anything it’s helpful to learn the basics first. You have to know which plants can survive in the area where you live and during certain seasons. You also need to browse through different designs that professionals have put together. This can serve as a jumping off point for your own ideas.
The line of your landscaping has to do with how you will lay it out. You will need to consider shapes that will be small gardens, or you should consider the borders of the flower beds. The lines in the landscape design will be boundaries.
Here’s a common mistake – You’re at the store and you see a plant that’s just beautiful. Without thinking any more about it, you buy it and take it home ready to plant. The only problem is that it’s completely out of place with the rest of your landscape design! Avoid impulsive buying; instead, head to the store with a plan in mind – something particular that you want for your yard.
For instance, if you have a few lovely yellow roses, some blue lobelias will make the roses stand out. Again, too much of a good thing to this regard can create a cluttered feel, so use these contrasts sparingly or to lead the eye to certain focal points. For most of your garden areas, complementary colors should mean a pleasing blend of tones that don’t overwhelm but, instead… well… complement each other. The technical term for these? Analogous colors – that is, colors that are close to each other on the color wheel, such as red, pink, white or green, blue, purple. Analogous colors provide a sense of harmony and bring your luxury landscape design together. Imagine a small pond with a few green junipers and purple irises and you get the idea.
Following that, you need to decide what size your stones should be. You can choose between stone chips, boulders, rounded stones and dimensional stones, to name a few. This too will depend on the size of your garden or space, as well as what effect or theme you are trying to create.

Set the budget right away so that you will also know what you can expect with the outcome of the project. The flow of the project will be much smoother and you can have a new yard in no time.
Keep proportion in mind when designing. You will want to make sure that each element is proportional to each other in regards to size and height. Playing off of proportion can help you to create focal points and draw viewer’s eyes to the spots you want to them to focus on.
